The development of artificial intelligence opens new opportunities for the media sphere, but simultaneously creates serious challenges that require international cooperation and the exchange of experience. Pavel Negoitsa, Director General of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Editorial Office of Rossiyskaya Gazeta," speaks at the 2026 SCO Media and Analytical Centers Forum.
According to him, the creation of the World Organization for Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai in the year of the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a logical reflection of the growing role of new technologies in the modern world.
Negoica noted that China is actively using artificial intelligence in developing its modern communications system. He added that Chinese media organizations, including the Xinhua News Agency, have already achieved significant results in applying AI technologies to the information sector.
"Today, there are various models for developing artificial intelligence—Chinese, English-language, Russian, and other approaches. The big challenge is whether it will be possible to unite this multinational wealth of knowledge, experience, and technology into a unified professional system, especially in the media," he noted.
Director General of Rossiyskaya Gazeta emphasized that the SCO countries have great potential for expanding information cooperation. He believed that the creation of a unified media hub could become an effective platform for exchanging news, reports, analytical materials, and professional experience.
He also highlighted the risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence, particularly the spread of false information and the growing influence of fake news.
According to Negoitsa, with the rapid increase in information consumption, traditional fact-checking tools are facing new challenges. Artificial intelligence can significantly improve the speed and quality of material production, but it requires responsible and ethical use.
"Cooperation in artificial intelligence and media is essential. We are already seeing the first steps in this direction, and in the future, this collaboration could become an important factor in the development of the information space of the SCO countries," said Pavel Negoitsa.
