SCO: Kyrgyzstan initiates creation of emergency aid fund

Bishkek, May 15, 2026. /Kabar/. Minister Kanatbek Chynybaev met with the ambassadors of the Republic of Belarus, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the People's Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Uzbekistan at the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to the ministry, the meetings were held as part of the implementation of the priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic's chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2026.

The main topic of the meetings was the promotion of the strategic initiative of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to establish an assistance mechanism under the auspices of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to unite the efforts of member states and improve the effectiveness of cooperation in responding to large-scale emergencies.

In this context, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations asked the ambassadors to provide positive support for the draft Regulation on the opening of a special account intended to finance emergency assistance to states affected by natural disasters.

During the meetings, the parties also discussed a wide range of current and future cooperation in emergency management, both bilaterally and within multilateral formats.

The heads of diplomatic missions of the SCO member states took note of the arguments made by the Kyrgyz side, noted the importance of strengthening regional security, and expressed their readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in promoting the draft Regulation and further deepening interagency cooperation.

The delegation was informed of upcoming expert meetings, where all comments and proposals from the Organization's member states will be thoroughly reviewed to ensure the draft document is thoroughly finalized.

It was particularly emphasized that the ultimate and fundamental goal of the Kyrgyz side is the creation of a flawlessly functioning, operational mechanism for mutual assistance. After all, saving lives, protecting territories from destructive natural disasters, and extending a timely helping hand to fraternal nations is the primary purpose, highest duty, and noble mission of the rescuers of all SCO countries.
