Over the 25 years of its existence, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has become an influential international platform that promotes strengthening security, developing partnerships, and expanding humanitarian cooperation. Kadyrbek Sarbayev, Senior Expert of SCO Secretariat informs at SCO Media and Analytical Center Forum.
He noted that the current forum is being held during the organization's anniversary year. According to him, the SCO has expanded significantly over the past quarter century: from six member states in 2001 to ten today.
Sarbaev recalled that over the years of its development, the organization has consolidated its efforts in countering terrorism, extremism, separatism, drug trafficking, and transnational organized crime. He stated that these areas will remain among the SCO's priorities as part of the implementation of the organization's Development Strategy to 2035.
The senior expert also noted that, in the context of rapid geopolitical and geoeconomic changes, applied research and analytical work are particularly important, as they will help the SCO effectively adapt to new challenges.
Speaking about Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship of the organization, the expert emphasized that it is being held under the motto "25 Years of the SCO. Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity." Throughout the year, under the Kyrgyz Republic's chairmanship, a number of events are being held aimed at strengthening long-term stability and expanding economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation.
He paid special attention to the role of the media. According to Sarbaev, the SCO Secretariat is actively developing cooperation with leading media outlets in member states, including the Xinhua News Agency, and is paying close attention to promoting the organization's activities in the global information space through its official website and social media.
"We regularly invite media representatives to cover SCO events and implement joint information projects. One such example was the anniversary photo exhibition organized jointly with the Xinhua News Agency for the organization's 25th anniversary," the expert noted.
He also thanked the forum's organizers, Kyrgyz National News Agency Kabar and the Chinese Xinhua News Agency for the high level of preparation for the event and expressed confidence that the forum will contribute to the further development of information and analytical cooperation within the SCO region.
