SCO Summit to be held in Bishkek on September 1

Bishkek, Aug. 29, 2026 /Kabar/. On September 1, 2026, Bishkek will host a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and a summit meeting in the "SCO Plus" format, chaired by President Sadyr Zhaparov. The events will be attended by the heads and representatives of SCO member states, as well as invited countries and international organizations.

Among those expected to attend are Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Also expected to attend the summit are Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Togolese Prime Minister Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, and Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister Hussein Issa.

International organizations are expected to participate, including SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev, Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure Ularbek Sharsheyev, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev, CSTO Secretary-General Taalatbek Masadykov, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Bakytzhan Sagintayev, and CICA Secretary-General Kairat Sarybay.

The heads of state will discuss current issues on the international and regional agenda, the further development of the SCO, and deepening cooperation in the political, trade and economic, transport and logistics, digital, environmental, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.

Following the meeting, it is planned to sign the Bishkek Declaration of the 25th Anniversary of the SCO, along with a number of documents and decisions aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation and improving the Organization's activities. The heads of state are also expected to adopt thematic statements.

At the "SCO Plus" summit, participants will exchange views on strengthening the central coordinating role of the UN and international law, promoting sustainable development, and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.

The upcoming summit will be the main final event of the Kyrgyz Republic's SCO chairmanship in 2025–2026. The chairmanship is being held under the motto "25 Years of the SCO: Together for Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity."
