Bishkek, Jan. 19, 2026 /Kabar/. Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy Marat Tagaev answered member of parliament's question at Zhogorku Kenesh (Parliament) about the repayment of funds allocated for state-produced film production and the current state of film distribution in the country.

Deputy Minister explained that, until now, films produced by the Kyrgyzfilm and Kyrgyzserial studios have been primarily educational and artistic in nature.

"The projects of our state-produced studios were not commercially oriented. This is high art, which often does not attract a mass audience or generate large box office revenues. However, we are now radically changing our strategy," said Marat Tagaev.

According to Deputy Minister, the successful experience of Kyrgyzstan's private film sector, which generates millions in revenue, has served as an impetus for reform. Starting in 2026, state projects are expected to become monetizable.

It is noted that separate division has been established within Kyrgyzfilm for the production of films for audiences. The state plans to annually finance the production of two to three commercial films, which will be designed for wide distribution and return on investment. All series and films produced under state orders will be adapted to market demands to generate profit.
