Issyk-Kul, Aug. 30, 2026 /Kabar/. The development of the tourism potential of the CIS countries plays an important role in strengthening friendship and cooperation between the peoples and states of the Commonwealth. Andrey Kondrashov, Director General of the Russian news agency TASS told at the 35th meeting of the CIS Information Council in Issyk-Kul.
According to him, tourism is not only an economic sector but also an important tool for cultural and spiritual interaction.
"The modern tourism industry is not just an economic category—although it is certainly an economic one—but also a unique spiritual tool that allows people to meet, get to know each other, form friendships, and see shared historical roots and a future," Kondrashov noted.
He emphasized that the topic chosen for the meeting, developing the Commonwealth's tourism potential, is particularly relevant given the large-scale international events being held in Kyrgyzstan.
"The very atmosphere of hospitality, the wonderful venue of our meeting, and the large-scale events taking place here virtually simultaneously—the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and the 6th World Nomad Games—confirm the relevance of our chosen main topic of discussion," he said.
Kondrashov also noted the symbolism of holding the meeting in Issyk-Kul, where 40 years ago Chyngyz Aitmatov organized the Issyk-Kul Forum, bringing together prominent intellectuals and cultural figures from various countries.
"I am very pleased that our meeting is being held today on the site of the Issyk-Kul Forum, where 40 years ago, that same Aitmatov first brought together outstanding intellectuals and creative figures from different countries," the head of TASS emphasized.
During his speech, he also thanked the staff of the Kabar news agency for organizing the 35th meeting of the CIS Information Council.
