Bishkek, Feb. 9, 2026 /Kabar/. Construction of a bypass road has begun in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul. According to the administration, a project to build a bypass road around Cholpon-Ata is underway as part of the preparations for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and the VI World Nomad Games, scheduled for August 31 - September 1 of this year.
The bypass road will be four-lane, with a total length of 15.64 km. Construction is being financed from the state budget using a parallel design process.
"Completion of construction is planned for the World Nomad Games and the SCO summit. Travel on the bypass road will be free," the statement says.
The project is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving road infrastructure, and ensuring high-quality preparation for international events. Work is progressing according to the approved schedule.
