Zholaman Sharshenbekov becomes two-time Asian Games champion

Bishkek, Oct. 1, 2026. /Kabar/. Zholaman Sharshenbekov, a member of the Kyrgyz national Greco-Roman wrestling team, has won the 20th Asian Games in Japan.

He competed in the 60 kg weight class and faced Alisher Ganiev of Uzbekistan in the final. Sharshenbekov defeated his opponent 7-5 to become the Asian Games champion.

The Kyrgyz wrestler began the competition in the Round of 16, where he first defeated a South Korean wrestler 9-0, and then defeated a wrestler from Turkmenistan 8-0 in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Sharshenbekov defeated an Iraqi wrestler 10-0 in 40 seconds, advancing to the final ahead of schedule.

Zholaman Sharshenbekov also won a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games, held in Hangzhou, China.
