Bishkek, Sept. 12, 2025 /Kabar/. The 13th Republican Theater Festival will be held in Osh on September 15 – 20, First Deputy Minister of Culture, Information and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic Soyuzbek Nadyrbekov told at a press conference at the Kabar Agency.
According to him, the first festival was held in Osh in 2007, and this year the city is hosting the theater festival again.
"All theaters of our republic - at the national, regional and district levels - will take part in the festival. In total, more than 20 performances will be presented," Nadyrbekov said.
The President of the Union of Theater Workers of Kyrgyzstan, Janysh Kulmambetov, emphasized that the festival has not been held for the past five years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Now we want to see what trends have emerged in our theaters during this time, what the repertoire and creative policy has become, as well as the level of artistic quality of the performances," he said.
According to him, the festival is competitive, and it will reveal the best. "There are favorites, talented directors, but the festival will show everything. This event is of great importance to us. The winners will be selected to participate in the ART-ORDO festival, which is held in October," he emphasized.
Kulmambetov also noted that such festivals in full format are held only in Bishkek and Osh. "In other regions there is only one theater, but here you can show 20 performances within a month. Now the festival will be held annually," he explained.
