Bishkek, Oct. 29, 2026 /Kabar/. The new Balykchy–Cholpon-Ata railway line is planned to be routed along the mountains, at a distance from the shores Issyk-Kul lake. Ryskulbek Zhumabaev, head of the Capital Construction Department at the state-owned enterprise "Kyrgyz Temir Zholu" (Kyrgyz Railways) reports.
According to him, specialists are currently finalizing the route for the future railway. The selection process takes into account the locations of residential areas, recreational zones, sites designated for investment, and protected natural areas.
"We will not build the line right next to the lake, where the beaches and protected zones are located. From Balykchy, the route will pass above Sary-Kamysh village, closer to the mountains and will also run above the airport in Tamchy," Zhumabaev noted.
