Bishkek discusses financing of small HPP construction

Bishkek, Oct. 22, 2026. /Kabar/. The "Kyrgyz Hydro 2026" financial and investment meeting took place in Bishkek, bringing together representatives from government agencies, financial institutions, investment funds, commercial banks, manufacturers of hydropower equipment, EPC contractors, and investors.

According to the Renewable Energy Association, participants discussed key issues regarding the financing of small hydropower plant construction, including the procurement of bank loans and investment capital, the use of leasing mechanisms for equipment acquisition, and prospects for cooperation with international financial institutions.

Special attention was given to projects currently under construction or in the preparatory stages that require additional financial resources.

During the event, representatives from hydropower equipment manufacturing companies presented modern technological solutions for small-scale hydroelectric plants and explored opportunities for collaboration with enterprises in Kyrgyzstan.

Kundus Kyrbasheva, Chair of the Renewable Energy Association of Kyrgyz Republic, emphasized the strategic importance of attracting private investment into the country's energy sector. "Kyrgyzstan possesses significant hydropower potential; however, realizing it requires accessible financial resources, modern technologies, and effective collaboration between the business sector and financial institutions.

Our objective today is to move beyond discussing challenges and toward concrete investment solutions. Small-scale hydropower plants should serve not only as a source of clean electricity but also as a vital tool for regional development, strengthening energy security, and attracting investment," noted Kyrbasheva.

A separate topic of discussion was the need to expand long-term lending mechanisms, attract international capital, and develop leasing options for hydropower equipment.
