The presentation of the study "Kyrgyzstan's Electric Power Industry and its Place in Central Asia: Past, Present, and Future" was held in Bishkek yesterday, featuring economist Kubat Rakhimov. The event addressed energy security, the state of the industry, infrastructure development, and the prospects for implementing major energy projects.
According to Kubat Rakhimov, the country's energy system still relies heavily on infrastructure built during the Soviet period, while the introduction of new generating capacity remains limited. He also noted that the growth in electricity consumption, driven by economic development and increasing load on the energy system, requires long-term planning.
The presentation also addressed issues of energy infrastructure modernization, intersectoral balance, and the prospects for developing hydro, solar, thermal, and nuclear energy.
According to the expert, the industry's development should be accompanied by the diversification of energy sources, infrastructure improvements, and the introduction of modern technologies, including energy storage systems.
The presentation also focused on water and energy cooperation in Central Asia. As Rakhimov noted, effective water resource management remains a key factor in the sustainable development of energy in the region.
Summing up, the expert emphasized the need for a comprehensive and long-term approach to energy sector development based on strategic planning and the assessment of promising projects.
