Bishkek, Sept. 1, 2026 /Kabar/. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit begins in Bishkek today, September 1, bringing together the leaders of the organization's 10 member states. The meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council will be chaired by President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov.
The summit is taking place in a special year for the SCO – the organization is turning 25. Kyrgyzstan holds the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization from 2025 to 2026.
President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev have arrived in Bishkek.
Leaders and high-ranking representatives of SCO partner states and international organizations will also participate in the events.
During the summit, the leaders will discuss current issues of international and regional security, the further development of the organization, and strengthening cooperation between states.
The agenda also includes trade and economic issues, investment, transport and logistics, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, the environment, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
A separate summit in the "SCO Plus" format will be held with the participation of representatives of non-member states and international organizations. Participants will exchange views on strengthening the central role of the UN and international law, sustainable development, and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.
The meeting is expected to conclude with the adoption of the Bishkek Declaration of the 25th Anniversary of the SCO, as well as a number of documents, decisions, and thematic statements by heads of state.
The summit will be the main final event of the Kyrgyz Republic's 2025–2026 SCO Presidency, held under the motto "25 Years of the SCO: Together for Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity."
