Bishkek, Oct. 7, 2026 /Kabar/. On October 15 at 3:00 PM, the Gapar Aitiev Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts will host a lecture by writer and curator Charles Esche titled "Can Museums Be Experimental?"
According to the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy, the lecture will examine experimental approaches in the activities of museums and art institutions, the experience of "experimental institutionalism" (which has been developing since the 1990s), and its role in the art world. This experience will also be compared with the development of art institutions in Bishkek and Central Asia.
Charles Esche is an Amsterdam-based writer and curator, as well as a professor of contemporary art and curating at the University of the Arts London. From 2000 to 2004, he headed the Rooseum museum in Malmö, and from 2004 to 2024, he led the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.
The event is organized jointly with the Three Ashes Foundation, the Bishkek School of Contemporary Art, and the organization Tazar.
The lecture will be held in English with simultaneous interpretation into Russian.
