Bishkek, Aug 4, 2026. /Kabar/. Cabinet of Ministers holds negotiations with several countries to ensure the country's fuel supply, Adylbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration told Kabar podcast.
According to him, the country imports over 90% of its fuel, and the geopolitical situation directly impacts prices. In this regard, Kyrgyzstan is negotiating with Russia, Belarus, China, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, as well as European countries and Turkiye.
"Regarding fuel, indeed, we import over 90%." Due to the geopolitical situation and events in the Middle East, fuel prices are rising sharply. On the other hand, the availability of fuel from Russia is no longer as high as it once was. Therefore, we are currently negotiating with many countries and gradually beginning deliveries.
Belarus is providing strong support for fuel supplies, and we are receiving fuel from there. As you already know, the first five trucks loaded with fuel arrived from China. However, the fuel needs to be delivered from China by rail, not by truck, and negotiations on this matter are currently underway. Negotiations are also underway with Azerbaijan.
We have also held talks with the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan; they have the capacity to supply 20,000 tons of fuel per month," the chairman said.
He also noted that fuel is being supplied from Europe and Turkiye, but there are difficulties with transit.
"Fuel itself is becoming more expensive, and delivery costs have also increased significantly. A corresponding regulation has been developed regarding subsidies for diesel fuel, gas for cars, and AI-92 gasoline, so we are maintaining prices and preventing them from rising sharply.
"But I want to point out that prices will still gradually increase. If we compare prices, diesel fuel and AI-92 gasoline are 20-25 soms cheaper here than in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. We are currently subsidizing this difference from the national budget," Kasymaliev said.
