Environmental safety needs comprehensive solutions, expert says

Bishkek, Oct. 16, 2026. /Kabar/. Environmental safety cannot be ensured by courts or state bodies alone; it requires joint action and the adoption of comprehensive solutions. Almaz Kasymbekov, expert from the Association of Judges of Kyrgyzstan told Kabar.

According to him, addressing environmental challenges requires the concerted efforts of all stakeholders.

"Currently, these issues are receiving attention at the highest level. For instance, President Sadyr Zhaparov drew the international community’s attention to the preservation of Issyk-Kul lake during a session of the United Nations General Assembly. Issyk-Kul is not merely a beautiful lake; it is a great gift of nature that helps us create jobs, develop tourism, and address many other issues. Today, environmental matters carry not only legal significance but also economic and social importance," the expert said.

As Kasymbekov noted, environmental justice entails upholding citizens' rights to clean air, water bodies, lakes, pastures, and forests, as well as preserving nature in a pristine state for future generations.

He emphasized that the primary objective of the 4th Annual Conference of Judges, currently underway and focused on environmental justice is to protect the constitutional rights of citizens, ensure the right to live in a safe environment, and implement international standards while taking national conditions into account.

Furthermore, the expert pointed out that Kyrgyzstan, as a mountainous nation, is highly vulnerable to global climate change, adding that these climatic shifts are having a negative impact on agriculture, water management, and other sectors.
