Bishkek, Sept. 1, 2026. /Kabar/. Over the past 25 years, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has become an integral part of the emerging multipolar world order. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated at the SCO+ meeting in Bishkek.
According to Erdogan, the SCO represents approximately 3.5 billion people, and the combined GDP of its member countries is $35 trillion.
"The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, representing approximately 3.5 billion people and a GDP of $35 trillion, has become an integral part of the multipolar order over the past 25 years," he said.
The Turkish president noted that the SCO can play an important role in ensuring peace and stability, as well as in developing secure transport corridors and ensuring energy security.
Erdogan emphasized that Turkey plays a vital role in ensuring SCO countries' access to Western markets, particularly through diversifying energy corridors and managing geopolitical risks.
"We seek to link the Middle Corridor initiative through Azerbaijan with the Belt and Road Initiative. And in this context, we attach great importance to cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization," he noted.
Speaking about regional security, Erdogan stated that Turkiye seeks to promote conflict resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
He also cited climate change, uncontrolled migration, terrorism, cross-border crime, and food security as global challenges.
The Turkish president announced that the COP31 summit will be held in Antalya on November 11–12, 2026, and invited the meeting's participants to participate in the event.
"I believe that our organization, inspired by the Shanghai Spirit, will play an important role in building a truly multipolar world," Erdoğan stated.
He also congratulated Pakistan on its upcoming assumption of the SCO presidency from Kyrgyzstan and wished the country success.
Erdoğan also wished Kyrgyzstan success in its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028.
Finally, the Turkish president touched on the situation in the Middle East. He stated that it was necessary to remember those killed in Israeli attacks, noting that, according to him, 74,000 women and children have died in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Erdoğan emphasized that the region continues to bear the consequences of conflicts and expressed hope for joint efforts to ensure peace and stability.
