Bishkek, Sept. 9, 2026 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) discussed expanding financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), improving business access to long-term investment resources, and enhancing their competitiveness, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
Benazir Nurlanova, Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic, met with Kenichi Kono, Director of the Central Asia and the Caucasus Department at JICA headquarters.
During the meeting, the Kyrgyz side presented existing measures to support entrepreneurship, including concessional lending and guarantees provided by the Guarantee Fund OJSC.
According to the ministry, the share of small and medium-sized businesses in Kyrgyzstan's GDP stood at 51.4% in 2025. The sector plays a vital role in ensuring employment and driving the country's economic growth.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their interest in continued cooperation, particularly regarding long-term financing and capacity building for enterprises.
