Bishkek, June 16, 2026 /Kabar/. Issyk-Kul to host UIM F1H2O (Formula 1 on water) World Championship. Eduard Kubatov, Director of the State Agency for Tourism Development spoke about independent and state environmental assessment in Kabar news agency.
According to him, environmental impact assessments (EIA) are not mandatory for international sporting events of this level. However, in response to public questions and concerns, additional environmental studies were conducted.
"High-level competitions like the UIM F1H2O do not require an environmental impact assessment. However, we conducted an environmental assessment with the participation of independent organizations and government agencies. We did this in response to environmental concerns," said Kubatov.
He noted that the studies concluded that the championship will not have a significant negative impact on the Issyk-Kul ecosystem.
The Formula 1 World Championship round on water will be held from July 31 to August 2 in Baetov village, Issyk-Kul district.
Twenty-five athletes from around the world are expected to participate. The competition will be broadcast live in 100 countries, highlighting the tourism potential of Kyrgyzstan and Issyk-Kul to an international audience.
