Bishkek, July 21, 2026 /Kabar/. The Kyrgyz national mathematics team won five medals at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which took place from July 10 to 21 in Shanghai, China.
According to the education ministry, 666 schoolchildren from 117 countries participated in one of the world's most prestigious mathematics olympiads. Kyrgyz national team was formed based on the results of the fourth stage of the National Mathematics Olympiad.
Five representatives of Kyrgyzstan won prizes, and one participant received a certificate of honor.
The medals were won by:
- Ariet Akimov – silver medal, 8th-grade student at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan School;
- Arlan Sayat – silver medal, 8th-grade student at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan School;
- Yan Bobrus – silver medal, 10th-grade student at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan School;
- Sultan Musakhodjaev – bronze medal, 10th-grade student at Maarif OK;
- Timur Akeneev – bronze medal, 11th-grade student at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan School.
- Bekten Abduvaliev, 8th-grade student at Silk Road Education School (ISK), was awarded a certificate of honor.
The team was led by Mamat Ishmatov and Bekzhol Zholdubay uulu.
Kyrgyzstan has been participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad since 1993. To date, the country has won 27 medals, 14 of which—one gold, eight silver, and five bronze—were won in the last three years.
At the end of this year's Olympiad, the Kyrgyz team placed 35th, ranking among the top 40 teams in the world for the third consecutive year.
The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the world championship in mathematics for schoolchildren. The first Olympiad was held in 1959 in Romania, with seven countries participating. In recent years, more than 100 countries from five continents have participated in the competition.
