Kyrgyz Parliament speaker: Legislative bodies must be driving force for change

Bishkek, April 7, 2025. /Kabar/. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu took part today in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent.

Speaking at the meeting, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening partnerships between countries.

Earlier, Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu delivered a sppech at the Assembly meeting, noting that global challenges, economic instability and increasing social inequality impose additional responsibility on the parliaments of the world. He added that legislative bodies should be the driving force of change, serve as a platform for making decisions that strengthen social unity and justice through open dialogue.

The Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, whose members are about 150 states, was founded in 1889. The 150th anniversary Assembly is being held in Tashkent in 2025.

As part of the above event, the speaker also talked with the heads of parliaments of neighboring republics and countries of Asia and Europe, where he exchanged views on the development of bilateral cooperation. In particular, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu congratulated Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko on her birthday and noted her great contribution to the development of relations between the states.
