Kyrgyz science minister meets with US ambassador

Bishkek, June 17, 2026 /Kabar/. On June 16, the Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovation of Kyrgyzstan, Gulzat Isamatova, met with the US Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Leslie Viguerie.

According to the ministry, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of Kyrgyz-American cooperation in higher education, science, innovation, and academic mobility.

Gulzat Isamatova emphasized Kyrgyzstan's interest in expanding cooperation with leading US universities and research centers, as well as in creating additional training opportunities for Kyrgyz students and young scientists, including through the "El Umutu" training program.

The meeting focused on improving English language teaching, teacher training, implementing education reforms under the national "Altyn Kazyk" program, and integrating digital technologies and artificial intelligence tools into the educational process.

The parties also discussed the development of inter-university cooperation, joint educational and research projects, academic exchanges, and improving the quality of higher education. Particular attention was paid to prospects for collaboration in geology and mining.

The minister proposed intensifying cooperation between specialized universities and research institutes in Kyrgyzstan and the US in training, conducting joint research, and sharing expertise. The US Ambassador supported this initiative, noting the high potential for bilateral cooperation in this area.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further expanding cooperation in education, science, and innovation, as well as in implementing new joint initiatives aimed at developing human capital and the scientific and technological potential of the two countries.
