Bishkek, Sept. 25, 2026 /Kabar/. Akyl Toktobaev, the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan, participated in the "BBNJ First Movers" high-level event held during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
According to the ministry, in his address, the minister emphasized the historic significance of the entry into force of the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) and noted the importance of its effective, inclusive implementation based on international cooperation. Kyrgyzstan signed the Agreement on July 17, 2025, and ratified it in September 2025. The Agreement entered into force for Kyrgyzstan on January 17, 2026.
Akyl Toktobaev noted that, despite being landlocked, Kyrgyzstan views the preservation of the global ocean as a shared responsibility of the international community, as oceans, mountains, glaciers, rivers, and terrestrial ecosystems are interconnected elements of a single natural system.
