Bishkek, July 27, 2026. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Education of Kyrgyz Republic approved the basic curricula for the 2026–2027 academic year for 11-year school education and grades gradually transitioning to 12-year education.
According to the ministry, during the second stage of the transition to 12-year education, the educational process in grades 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 8 will be carried out using updated educational programs and new teaching and methodological tools.
Additionally, starting with the new school year, a pre-profile component with a two-hour weekly curriculum will be introduced in 8th grade.
However, in grades 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11, instruction will continue using the educational programs and teaching and methodological packages developed for the 11-year school, with the exception of the teaching and methodological packages for English for grades 3–9.
According to the approved curricula, due to major national and international events taking place in the country, the 2026–2027 school year in all general education institutions in Kyrgyzstan will begin on September 15, 2026, and end on May 25, 2027.
The duration of the school year, excluding summer break, will be:
Grade 1 – 32 weeks;
Grade 2 – 33 weeks;
Grades 3–11 – 34 weeks.
School holiday schedule for the 2026–2027 academic year:
Fall break — 5 calendar days, from November 11–15, 2026. School will resume on November 16;
Winter break — 10 calendar days, from January 1–10, 2027. School will resume on January 11;
Spring break — 6 calendar days, from March 3–8, 2027. School will resume on March 9;
May holiday — 9 calendar days, from May 1–9, 2027. School will resume on May 10.
School break will also be extended by two weeks for first-grade students, and by one week for second-grade students.
The dates of additional holidays will be determined by district and city education authorities, taking into account the climatic and sanitary-epidemiological conditions of the regions.
