Bishkek, Oct. 9 /Kabar/. On October 8, a new initiative, the "Snow Leopard Conservation through Ecotourism Project" is being considered in Kyrgyzstan within the framework of a public-private partnership.
According to the National Investment Agency, the initiative aims to combine nature conservation efforts with the development of ecotourism. The participants discussed the project concept and potential locations for its implementation.
The discussion was attended by Damirbek Bikulov, Deputy Head of the National Investment Agency; Nurbek Anarbekin, Director of the Public-Private Partnership Center; Dmitry Pyatachenko, IFC head; WB head Hugh Riddell and Erkin Asrandiev, IFC consultant.
The project concept was proposed by the Indian company SUJAN Luxury Hospitality Private Limited (SUJAN), which has experience in tourism development and nature conservation. It envisions the development of ecotourism, snow leopard and wildlife viewing, wildlife photography, scientific research, game warden training, engagement with local communities, and the development of tourism infrastructure.
"The initiative aims to foster responsible tourism and create a tourism product that aligns with nature conservation goals. It also envisages combining tourism activities with measures to preserve biodiversity and support local communities," the statement says.
It is noted that the project is currently in the initial stages of review and preliminary assessment.
Consultations are ongoing regarding the concept, potential implementation sites, and future terms of execution, in accordance with the Kyrgyz Republic's legislation on public-private partnerships.
