Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia to strengthen economic cooperation

Bishkek, July 2, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan and Indonesia will strengthen economic cooperation. Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan Sultan Akhmatov met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Muhammad Anis Matta.

According to the ministry, Sultan Akhmatov noted that a free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and its member states, on the one hand, and Indonesia, on the other, is currently under consideration by Jogorku Kenesh.

"Indonesia is one of Kyrgyzstan's key partners in Southeast Asia. We are interested in expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation. The potential for cooperation between our countries significantly exceeds current trade figures. Our goal is to take trade and economic relations to a qualitatively new level. We see great potential in the development of the halal industry, the clothing industry, and investment cooperation," Sultan Akhmatov noted.

Deputy minister also briefed the Indonesian side on the economic reforms being implemented in Kyrgyzstan and noted the country's steady economic growth over the past four years.

In turn, Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Muhammad Anis Matta emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is viewed as a promising partner in Central Asia.

"This is my second visit to Kyrgyzstan. The country has changed noticeably during this time. Today, we see sustainable economic growth, large-scale construction of new facilities and modern infrastructure, and active urban development. All of this demonstrates positive changes in the economy. We highly appreciate the results achieved by Kyrgyzstan," he noted.

According to him, to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, it is necessary to intensify contacts between the business communities of the two countries. In this regard, the Indonesian side expressed interest in hosting a Kyrgyz-Indonesian business forum.

In turn, Sultan Akhmatov noted the Kyrgyz side's interest in resuming the activities of the Kyrgyz-Indonesian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Technical Cooperation.

Following the meeting, the parties also confirmed their mutual readiness to give new impetus to Kyrgyz-Indonesian relations and intensify cooperation in all promising areas.
