Kyrgyzstan launches air quality improvement project

Bishkek, Feb. 7, 2025 /Kabar/. The Air Quality Improvement Project in the Kyrgyz Republic (AQIP) is being launched, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision reports.

The project is being implemented under an agreement with the International Development Association (IDA) and is designed for the period from 2024 to 2030, and its budget is $50 million.

Key areas of the project:

  • Strengthening the air quality management system

- Creating a modern system for monitoring, analyzing and controlling pollution.

  1. Supporting environmentally friendly heating solutions

- Implementing affordable clean heating technologies for households.

  1. Improving urban greening

- Creating a green belt in Bishkek, modernizing the irrigation system and planting new trees.

  • Expected project results:
  • Improving air quality and reducing pollution.
  • Reducing PM2.5 and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Development of environmentally friendly heating.
  • Creation of a comfortable and green urban environment.

The project is aimed at long-term improvement of the country's environmental sustainability and improving the quality of life of citizens, the Ministry of Natural Resources reports.
