Issyk-Kul, Sept. 6, 2026 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan has officially passed the baton of hosting the 7th World Nomad Games to Russia’s Tatarstan. The handover ceremony took place today during the closing ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games in Cholpon-Ata town of Kyrgyzstan.
Adylbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic, presented a symbolic vessel to a representative of Tatarstan. The vessel was filled with contributions collected from 40 districts across seven regions of Kyrgyzstan.
The 7th World Nomad Games are scheduled to take place in Kazan, Tatarstan, in 2028.
The World Nomad Games (WNG) are an international sports and cultural event dedicated to preserving, promoting, and showcasing the heritage of nomadic peoples. The Games combine traditional sports and ethnosports with cultural performances, music, crafts, and academic activities focused on nomadic history and traditions.
The first World Nomad Games were held in 2014 in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, the birthplace of the event. Since then, the Games have been held in Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, and Kazakhstan, bringing together athletes and cultural representatives from countries around the world.
The Games are traditionally held every two years. The 2020 edition was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 6th World Nomad Games were held in Kyrgyzstan from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6, 2026, with competitions centered in the Issyk-Kul region. More than 3,000 athletes from 109 countries took part in the Games, which featured traditional sports, cultural events, and activities highlighting the shared heritage of nomadic civilizations.
