Bishkek, Aug. 21, 2026 /Kabar/. Approximately 97% of trade between Kyrgyzstan and Russia is conducted in national currencies, according to the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund.

According to the fund, the parties are moving to a new model of financial cooperation, which includes expanded settlements in soms and rubles, joint financing, and the development of new investment support instruments.

Nikita Gusakov, Senior Vice President of the Russian Export Center and CEO of EXIAR, noted that the countries have significantly reduced their reliance on dollar settlements.

"About 97% of trade is already conducted in local currencies. We have stopped thinking exclusively in dollars. The ruble dominates, but the som is also actively used, and this is gradually turning into investment activity,” he said.
