Kyrgyzstan steps up construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway

Bishkek, Sept. 26, 2025 /Kabar/. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev met with a delegation from the China State Railway Corporation, led by Deputy General Director Wang Lixin.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers, during the meeting, it was noted that construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway has entered the practical stage. Tunneling and temporary infrastructure construction are underway, and key organizational and administrative issues are being addressed.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan is providing comprehensive support for the project's implementation. Coordination meetings with relevant government agencies are held regularly. Particular attention is being paid to compliance with environmental and safety standards at all stages of construction.

The Kyrgyz side expressed confidence in continued constructive cooperation with its Chinese partners and emphasized the importance of compliance with national legislation, professional ethics, and public order by all project participants.

Key development areas were also discussed during the meeting: establishing projected freight volumes; opening a training academy for railway specialists; and establishing the Torugart, Makmal, Jerge-Tal, and Jalal-Abad economic zones.

Bakyt Torobaev proposed increasing the share of Kyrgyz citizens employed in the project in accordance with the investment agreement. He also emphasized the priority procurement of goods and services from local suppliers.

The parties agreed to begin jointly exploring these issues now with the goal of ensuring the project's long-term sustainability.

"The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is a road to the future. It is a symbol of our friendship, partnership, and commitment to sustainable development. We are confident that coordinated efforts will enable the project to be implemented as effectively as possible—for the benefit of all our peoples," Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev noted at the conclusion of the meeting.
