Bishkek, March 10, 2026 /Kabar/. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov addressed the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
In his speech, he reaffirmed the Kyrgyz Republic's unwavering commitment to promoting gender equality, protecting the rights of women and girls, and fulfilling its international obligations under the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Edil Baisalov emphasized that, under the leadership of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, the state has pursued a consistent policy of strengthening the rule of law, expanding women's economic opportunities, and decisively combating violence against women. He noted that Kyrgyzstan adheres to the principle of zero tolerance for such crimes and continues to improve its legislation and protection mechanisms.
In his speech, special attention was paid to the need to comply with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, as well as the protection of civilians, especially women and children, in modern conflicts.
"The world cannot talk about women's rights while seeing suffering women in conflict zones. The protection of women must become an integral part of international security," stated Edil Baisalov.
The head of the Kyrgyz delegation also noted that the UN must lead by example in matters of equality.
"After nearly eight decades of Organization's existence, the time has come—and it is long overdue—for a woman to lead the United Nations as Secretary-General," he emphasized.
Delegation from the Kyrgyz Republic is currently participating in the 70th session of the Commission. It includes representatives from the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General's Office, several ministries, and the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic. The delegation is actively participating in plenary sessions, thematic discussions, and numerous side events.
