Bishkek, Sept. 25, 2026 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan's first satellite is scheduled to be launched into space during the first week of October from California, USA. The satellite was developed and assembled in Kyrgyzstan by the Kyrgyz Asman Open Joint-Stock Company, the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry said.
On September 24, Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Agriculture Minister, inspected the project. The satellite took approximately two and a half years to develop, and preparations for its launch are currently being finalized.
Agriculture will be the primary sector for the application of the satellite's data. They will enable the monitoring of crop area conditions, the analysis of agricultural land and pastures, the detection of drought signs, and preliminary yield assessments.
In addition, satellite monitoring will be used to assess the impact of emergencies and to observe the state of glaciers, water resources, and the environment.
"Satellite imagery will enhance forecasting capabilities in the agricultural sector. It will also make it possible to analyze environmental conditions, assess the consequences of emergencies, and monitor glaciers and water resources. However, the satellite will primarily be used for agricultural development," noted Erlist Akunbekov.
Work is currently underway at Kyrgyz Asman JSC to assemble the satellite's main components, install electronic equipment, and test its systems. Once preparatory work is complete, the satellite will be launched into space.
The sole shareholder of Kyrgyz Asman JSC is the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan. The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry exercises the rights of the sole shareholder.
