Bishkek, April 9, 2025. /Kabar/. Members of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child — Bragi Gudbrandsson (Vice-Chair, Iceland) and Tuwaiba Al Barwani (Member of the Committee, Oman) — arrived in Kyrgyzstan for an official visit.

The Cabinet of Ministers reported that the visit is being carried out at the initiative of the Commissioner for Children's Rights of the Kyrgyz Republic Asel Chynbaeva with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Kyrgyzstan.

The visit will include meetings with government officials, as well as study tours to organizations providing services in the field of education, social support, and protection of children's rights, including children with special educational needs in difficult life situations.

As part of the visit, a round table will be held to discuss priority measures in the field of protecting the rights and ensuring the best interests of children for 2025-2028, as set out in the Action Plan for the implementation of the concluding observations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, prepared following the consideration of the fifth and sixth periodic reports of the Kyrgyz Republic on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The event will be attended by representatives of government agencies, international organizations, civil society, the expert community, and youth initiatives.

Kyrgyzstan actively interacts with the Committee. In 2023, it submitted a combined fifth and sixth periodic reports on the implementation of the provisions of the Convention. The concluding observations of the Committee serve as a guide for improving the national policy in the field of protecting children's rights.
