Bishkek, Sept. 15, 2026. /Kabar/. Akyl Toktobaev, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan, met with Ingo Ammermann, Federal Executive Director of the German Union for Nature Conservation (NABU).
The Ministry of Natural Resources reported that the the further development of cooperation between the Biodiversity Research Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and NABU, the development of the Snow Leopard Rehabilitation Center, the extension and possible expansion of the current Memorandum of Understanding, as well as cooperation under the international conservation conventions CITES, CMS, and the Ramsar Convention were discussed at the meeting.
Particular attention was paid to the ministry's ongoing work to revise and update the Red Data Book of the Kyrgyz Republic. The minister noted the importance of using modern scientific data and expressed interest in NABU's expert support. Ingo Ammermann, in turn, noted NABU's relevant experience and willingness to share its expertise.
The IKI SYMBIOTIC project, which includes a component for Kyrgyzstan, and the potential for its implementation, taking into account national biodiversity conservation priorities, were also discussed.
Following the meeting, further joint measures for snow leopard conservation, the implementation of commitments under the Bishkek Declaration, and the preparation of events for World Snow Leopard Day, celebrated on October 23, were discussed.
Following the meeting, a commitment to further strengthen cooperation and implement joint conservation initiatives was confirmed.
