Bishkek, Nov. 3, 2026. /Kabar/. In Bishkek, 1,050–1,100 buses transport passengers every day, with the municipal enterprise "Bishkek City Transport" handling 95–96% of all public transit volume. Maksat Zhumabaev, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development under the Bishkek City Hall told Kabar.

According to him, the municipal enterprise currently has over 1,400 buses at its disposal. Of these, approximately 1,100 vehicles are deployed on routes daily to serve the capital's residents. Private companies also provide passenger transport services in Bishkek, though their share remains relatively small.

"Furthermore, the administrative-territorial reform has led to an expansion of Bishkek’s territory. In light of this, proposals have been prepared for the procurement of additional buses, and work is underway to ensure that the newly incorporated areas are provided with public transport.

As for the payment system introduced for city public transit, it now allows for transfers between buses. For instance, passengers using a 'Tulpar' card can transfer to another bus for free within one hour to reach their destination," he stated.

He added that the shift to cashless fare payments has also eased the workload for drivers and reduced the impact of the "human factor," as drivers are no longer responsible for collecting fees.
