Bishkek, Aug. 31, 2026. /Kabar/. Today, August 31, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who arrived in Kyrgyzstan to participate in the SCO+ Meeting and the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of state thanked António Guterres for accepting the invitation to visit Kyrgyzstan and emphasized that the Kyrgyz Republic's chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Organization's founding and the 35th anniversary of the country's independence.
The parties discussed prospects for cooperation with the UN, current issues on the international agenda, and the promotion of mountain and climate initiatives globally.
Particular attention was paid to Kyrgyzstan's upcoming membership in the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for 2027-2028.
The head of state noted strengthening international peace and security, expanding the role of small and developing states in international processes, and uniting international efforts to address climate challenges and mountain regions as priorities for the Security Council.
In this regard, they discussed preparations for the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25" to be held in Bishkek on October 21–23, 2027. This summit will serve as the final event of the International Five-Year Action Plan for Mountain Regions (2023–2027).
President Sadyr Zhaparov proposed that the UN co-host the Summit.
The Organization's participation is expected to give the event additional international reach and facilitate the engagement of a wide range of states and international partners in the discussion of sustainable mountain development issues.
Following the meeting, they expressed interest in further strengthening interaction and practical cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the United Nations.
