Bishkek, July 13, 2026. /Kabar/. At the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2026), which took place from July 4 to 12 in Bucaramanga, Colombia, Kyrgyz schoolchildren won one silver, three bronze medals, and one honorable certificate.
According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education, all five members of the national team received awards, and four students won medals.
The following students received awards at the Olympiad:
- Temirkhan Saliev – silver medal, 11th-grade student at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan School (coaches: Andrey Sidorenko, Turgunbek Omurkanov, Altynbek Almurza uulu);
- Askar Abdiev – bronze medal, 12th-grade student at AIMS Razzakov International School (coaches: Chyntemir Sabyrov, Ulukbek Azhybaev);
- Aitegin Emilbekov - bronze medal, 11th grade student at the Gazprom Kyrgyzstan school (coaches: Andrey Sidorenko, Turgunbek Omurkanov, Altynbek Almurza uulu);
- Akhmed Abylaev - bronze medal, 11th grade student of the Seitek-STEM school (coaches: Duishon Satybaldyev, Salizhan Kylychbekov);
- Nurbol Myrzabekov - diploma of honor, 10th grade student at the Maarif educational complex (coaches: Andrey Sidorenko, Turgunbek Omurkanov, Altynbek Almurza uulu).
Also, the silver medal of Temirkhan Saliev became the first silver award for Kyrgyzstan at IPhO last 19 years. The previous silver medal was won by Maxim Stepanenko in 2007. Temirkhan Saliev became Kyrgyzstan's third silver medalist in the country's history at the International Physics Olympiad.
Before IPhO 2026, Kyrgyzstan had won two silver medals, 14 bronze medals, and 26 honorary diplomas. Following the results of the Olympiad in Colombia, the country's total was three silver medals, 17 bronze medals, and 27 honorary diplomas.
The head coach of the Kyrgyzstan national team at IPhO 2026 was Chyntemir Sabyrov, and the deputy team coach was Andrey Sidorenko.
