Bishkek, Jan. 30, 2025 . / Kabar / . At present, the situation with measles incidence in the country remains acute, Kabar News Agency has learnt from the press service of the Kyrgyz Health Ministry.
The main increase in morbidity is observed in Bishkek, where the virus is actively spreading among contact persons in stationary foci.
"In recent years, cases of refusal of vaccination among children are increasing. This phenomenon creates serious threats to children's health. Unvaccinated children are exposed to the risk of infectious diseases and contribute to their spread," the report said.
According to statistical data, by the end of 2023, 7,046 cases of measles were registered in the republic, while in 2024 - 14,380 cases. Since the beginning of this year to date, 1,104 cases were recorded.
The Health Ministry said that most of those who fell ill were children whose parents had previously refused to be vaccinated.
"In 2023, 22,000 parents refused to vaccinate their children, and at the end of 11 months of 2024, the number of refusals amounted to 16,408," the ministry said.
