Bishkek, Feb. 18, 2026 /Kabar/. Public hearings on improving air quality were held in Bishkek on February 17, according to Bishkek Mayor's office.

The hearings focused on two key issues: smog and dust. Participants asked a number of questions and made suggestions, which were recorded for further development.

The meeting was attended by Bishkek Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev, Speaker of the Bishkek city council Bekzhan Usenaliev, members of the Kyrgyz Parliament, members of the Bishkek city council, members of the Environmental council, experts, representatives of government agencies, construction and financial organizations, media outlets, bloggers, and active citizens. More than 150 people participated in the meeting.

Bishkek Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev noted that the recommendations of the previous Environmental council meeting have been implemented. In 2025, the greening plan was increased from 15,000 to 18,000 seedlings, which were planted in schools and districts across the city. In 2026, the plan has been increased to 50,000 seedlings: contracts have already been signed, and planting material is currently being delivered. Before planting, the plants undergo adaptation in nurseries, which increases their survival rate.

" Environmental council is a platform where the Bishkek city administration is ready to listen to criticism and constructive suggestions, develop an action plan, and report on the year's results," Dzhunushaliev emphasized.

The event took place at an eco-technological plant for generating electricity from solid municipal waste, located at the Bishkek sanitary landfill.

The mayor gave a tour of the new plant to participants in the public hearings, emphasizing the importance of its construction as a significant step toward improving the environmental situation in Bishkek.

Summing up the meeting, Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev thanked the participants for their active civic engagement and noted that all initiatives voiced at the Environmental council meeting would be implemented by relevant bodies.

The event was organized by the Bishkek Mayor's office in collaboration with the Development Policy Institute.
