An international scientific and practical conference titled “Uzbekistan – Tajikistan: new prospects for alliance and regional cooperation” was held at the International Institute for Central Asia, UzA reported.

The conference, attended by representatives of ministries and agencies, parliaments, analytical centers, research institutions, business circles, and the higher education system, noted the dynamic growth of mutual trade and economic cooperation. It was emphasized that by the end of 2025, trade turnover reached $912 million.

During the discussions, which continued in three sections, the focus was on strengthening the partnership between the two countries, expanding the scale of mutually beneficial cooperation in the economy, transport, education, science, culture, and tourism, and developing ties in a regional format.

Chairman of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on International Affairs, Defense and Security Ulugbek Shermatov emphasized that relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are based not only on geographical proximity, but also on deep historical, cultural, and spiritual ties.

“Our relations have become an important factor in strengthening stability and bilateral and multilateral trust in Central Asia”, Mr. Shermatov said. “The countries are actively working within such major international structures as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the CIS”.

Following the event, proposals were developed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, logistics, and industry. The participants unanimously confirmed that expert dialogue is crucial to ensuring the region’s sustainable development.
