Bishkek, Feb. 6, 2026 /Kabar/. World Mobile Phone-Free Day, observed annually on February 6, is not a call to abandon technology but an opportunity to reflect on the limits of its influence on daily life, AzerTAG reported.
The initiative emerged in the early 2000s as a public campaign against digital addiction, encouraging people to consciously reduce smartphone use, at least for one day.
According to data from Statista, there are more than 6.8 billion smartphone users worldwide. On average, people check their phones up to 200 times a day, while teenagers spend up to seven or eight hours daily on screens. The World Health Organization links excessive screen time to increased anxiety and sleep disorders.
Experts note that even 24 hours without a smartphone can improve concentration and sleep quality. At the same time, the rapid spread of digital services highlights the growing importance of digital hygiene, especially for children and adolescents.
World Mobile Phone-Free Day is seen as an attempt to find balance in an increasingly digital world, where the ability to pause technology use is becoming an essential life skill.
