Bishkek, Sept. 1, 2026. /Kabar/. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization should play a more active role in shaping a just and orderly multipolar world and reforming global governance. Chinese President Xi Jinping stated at "SCO+" format meeting in Bishkek.

According to Xi Jinping, the world is undergoing profound changes, and the formation of a multipolar world has become an irreversible historical process. In this context, he called for upholding the sovereign equality of states, mutual respect, and adherence to international law.

The Chinese president emphasized the need to maintain the central role of the United Nations in the system of international relations.

"International affairs should be resolved by countries through dialogue, and international rules should be developed jointly," he noted.

Xi Jinping also spoke of the need to increase the representation and voice of countries in the Global South in international affairs. He stated that protectionism, disconnection, and bloc confrontation are not in the interests of global development.

He noted that over the past 25 years, the SCO has become an important platform for political, economic, and humanitarian interaction and today unites a space encompassing almost half the world's population and about a quarter of the global economy.

The Chinese leader outlined three areas in which the SCO can strengthen its contribution to international development.

First, promote shared prosperity in Eurasia, including through developing cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative.

Second, strengthen cooperation with countries in the Global South and expand the "SCO+" space.

Third, participate in reforming and improving the global governance system, ensuring more equal participation of states in international decision-making.

"We should firmly adhere to the path of partnership rather than joining blocs, and dialogue rather than confrontation," Xi Jinping emphasized.

He called on SCO member states and partners to focus on practical actions, jointly promote a just, multipolar world, and contribute to the formation of a more equitable and rational system of global governance.
