Bishkek, March 3, 2025. /Kabar/. On March 2, 1992, during the 46th session of the UN General Assembly, in accordance with the recommendation of the UN Security Council and UN General Assembly resolution 46/225, Kyrgyzstan was unanimously admitted to the United Nations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The Kyrgyz Republic, being a responsible member of the UN, from the very beginning of its statehood has firmly and consistently observed the generally recognized goals and principles enshrined in the UN Charter. In the international arena, the Kyrgyz side tries to fulfill its obligations in good faith. The Kyrgyz Republic always strives to resolve its international disputes by peaceful means. The Kyrgyz Republic considers the UN as an authoritative and universal international organization, which is the center for decision-making on the most important global issues, such as maintaining peace and security, developing friendly relations between nations, sustainable development, reducing poverty, respecting human rights, protecting the environment, adapting and mitigating the effects of climate change, combating diseases and many other modern challenges and threats to humanity.
The Kyrgyz side feels the support of the UN in promoting reforms and programs for the socio-economic development of the country under the leadership of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov.
Kyrgyzstan makes its contribution to the activities of the Organization and strengthening its authority. At the initiative of the Kyrgyz side, the UN General Assembly adopted a number of resolutions that helped attract the attention of the world community to the country, its culture and history, nature and ecology, as well as the problems and challenges of timeliness. Thus, on December 14, 2022, the 77th session of the UN General Assembly unanimously, without a vote and in co-authorship of 109 UN member states, adopted the resolution "Sustainable Mountain Development". At the initiative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov, this resolution declared 2023-2027 the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions. The main goals of the Mountain Five Years are adaptation and mitigation of the negative effects of climate change, improving the living conditions of people living in mountainous areas, from economic, environmental and social aspects. Also, at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan, on December 12, 2024, at the regular plenary meeting of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, a resolution was adopted proclaiming October 23 as International Snow Leopard Day. Kyrgyzstan has been repeatedly elected to various elected bodies of the UN and the governing structures of its specialized agencies. Currently, the Kyrgyz Republic has put forward its candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2027-2028 and is actively conducting its election campaign. The Kyrgyz Republic firmly supports the UN as the only universal structure authorized by all UN member states to address emerging challenges facing humanity. Kyrgyzstan expresses hope that the UN will continue to properly contribute to solving pressing global problems.
