Issyk-Kul, Sept. 6, 2026 /Kabar/. About 3,000 athletes from 109 countries participated in the 6th World Nomad Games, which took place from August 31 to September 6 in Kyrgyzstan, Kubanych Ermekov, Head of the High Performance Sports Analysis and Development Department at the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports told at a press conference in Cholpon-Ata.
According to him, the athletes competed in 42 sports.
The World Nomad Games (WNG) are an international sports and cultural event dedicated to preserving, promoting, and showcasing the heritage of nomadic peoples. The Games combine traditional sports and ethnosports with cultural performances, music, crafts, and academic activities focused on nomadic history and traditions.
The first World Nomad Games were held in 2014 in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, the birthplace of the event. Since then, the Games have been held in Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, and Kazakhstan, bringing together athletes and cultural representatives from countries around the world.
The Games are traditionally held every two years. The 2020 edition was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 6th World Nomad Games were held in Kyrgyzstan from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6, 2026, with competitions centered in the Issyk-Kul region.
