Bishkek renames street names to eliminate duplication

Bishkek, Aug. 26, 2026 /Kabar/. Bishkek City Hall reported the current status of the renaming of several streets and avenues in the capital.

According to the agency, in order to eliminate the duplication of street names that arose as a result of the administrative-territorial reform, as well as to streamline the fragmented names of streets located along a single street route, the Bishkek City Council adopted Resolution No. 89 "On Renaming Streets in Bishkek City" dated May 31, 2026.

According to the adopted resolution, a number of streets and avenues have been combined under single names:

  • Mikhail Frunze Street (Novopavlovka), Deng Xiaoping, Chui, and Shabdan Baatyr Avenues—to become Chui Avenue;
  • 7 April and Kurmanzhan Datki Streets—to become Kurmanzhan Datki Street;
  • Zhaiyl Baatyr Street, Absamat Masaliev and Aaly Tokombaev Avenues, and Kaiykov Street—to become Aaly Tokombaev Avenue;
  • Anvarbek Chortekov and Krivonosov streets - into Absamat Masaliev street;
  • Leo Tolstoy, Puteprovodnaya, Sary Ozon streets - to Shabdan Baatyr street;
  • Chyngyz Aitmatov Avenue and Manas Street - to Chyngyz Aitmatov Avenue;
  • Young Guard Boulevard and Mahatma Gandhi Street - to Imanaly Aidarbekov Street;
  • Selektsionnaya and Muromskaya streets - into Mahatma Gandhi Street;
  • Julius Fuchik Street and Vasilyevsky Trakt - to Manas Street;
  • Zhibek-Zholu and Pobedy avenues - to Zhibek-Zholu Avenue;
  • Maxim Gorky and Ankara streets - into Ankara street;
  • Chalagyz Imankulov and Karybek Tynaliev streets - into Karybek Tynaliev street;
  • Baytik Baatyr, Zhusup Abdrakhmanov, Abdynasyr Elebesov, and Tsentralnaya Streets will become Zhusup Abdrakhmanov Street;
  • Beregovaya, Okrainnaya, Kok-Sai, K. Kurmanaliev, and Naberezhnaya Streets will become Deng Xiaoping Street;
  • Iskhak Razzakov (Novopavlovka) and Asipa Temirova Streets will become Anvarbek Chortekov Street;
  • Vinogradnaya Street will become Leo Tolstoy Street;
  • Nikolai Gogol Street (Novopavlovka) will become Chalagyz Imankulov Street;
  • Lenskaya and Yubileynaya Streets will become Zhaiyl Baatyr Street.

The Bishkek branch of the State Agency for Land Resources, Cadastre, Geodesy, and Cartography is currently completing work to change the address numbers in accordance with the approved street names.

It is noted that after this stage is completed, the Bishkek City Hall will implement a series of necessary measures. Specifically, signs with new street names will be installed, and utility and public transportation data will be updated.

Furthermore, the address registry will be integrated with state information systems and databases. The relevant information will be transferred to the 2GIS and Yandex Maps mapping services to update address information.

Other technical and organizational measures will also be taken to inform residents of the relevant streets about changes to address data.
