Bishkek, Oct. 20, 2025 /Kabar/. A team of ophthalmologists from China carried out 317 free surgeries at the Osh Interregional Combined Clinical Hospital from October 11 to 22 as part of the project “Health Express – Bright Journey.”

According to the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, over two weeks, Chinese specialists restored the eyesight of hundreds of patients, giving them the opportunity to see the world anew.

Each surgery, including lens implantation and medication, typically costs more than 100,000 soms, but all expenses were fully covered by the Chinese side. The project aims to provide high-tech ophthalmological care to residents of southern Kyrgyzstan, particularly patients suffering from cataracts and glaucoma.

As part of the humanitarian initiative, the China Health Express Foundation also donated an optical coherence tomograph (OCT) worth 17 million soms to the hospital.

Cooperation between the Osh Interregional Hospital and Chinese specialists has been ongoing for three years:

  • 2023: 338 surgeries
  • 2024: 237 surgeries
  • 2025: 317 surgeries

In appreciation, the hospital administration and the staff of the eye microsurgery department presented Chinese doctors with letters of gratitude and commemorative gifts. Both sides also signed a new three-year agreement to continue their successful collaboration.
