Fifth meeting of Kyrgyz-Hungarian Strategic Council held in Budapest

Bishkek, Oct. 17, 2025 /Kabar/. On October 17, Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó held the fifth meeting of the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Strategic Council in Budapest.

According to the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, in accordance with the meeting's agenda, the foreign ministers of the two countries discussed issues of deepening Kyrgyz-Hungarian cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian spheres in the spirit of an expanded strategic partnership. The parties noted with satisfaction the active nature of the political dialogue between the countries at the highest level. In this context, the organization of visits and other bilateral events of mutual interest were discussed.

The parties welcomed the progressive strengthening of interparliamentary cooperation. Minister Kulubaev briefed the two sides on the progress of preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections on November 30, 2025, emphasizing the use of new digital technologies in the national vote. He invited the Hungarian side to send its representatives to the parliamentary elections as international observers, both bilaterally and within the framework of multilateral structures.

To further expand trade, economic, and investment ties between the Kyrgyz Republic and Hungary, a decision was made to hold regular meetings of the joint Kyrgyz-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Business Council in the near future. The importance of strengthening cooperation in energy, transport, agriculture, technology, the environment, and education was noted. The parties reviewed the current activities of the Hungarian-Kyrgyz Development Fund, reaffirming its important role in deepening the investment partnership between the two countries through the implementation of agreed-upon projects.

Particular attention was paid to cultural and humanitarian issues, including cooperation in education. The Kyrgyz side expressed gratitude to the Hungarian side for the annual provision of a quota for Kyrgyz students to study at Hungarian higher education institutions under the Stipendium Hungaricum program. The results of the second Kyrgyz-Hungarian Rectors' Conference, held on September 19, 2025, in Bishkek, with the participation of heads of higher education institutions from Kyrgyzstan and Hungary, were noted with satisfaction. Kulubaev spoke about major upcoming events in the country, including the sixth World Nomad Games in 2026, the second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25" in 2027, and the 100th anniversary of the birth of world famous Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov in 2028. He invited the Hungarian side to participate in these events.

The ministers held a comprehensive exchange of views on pressing issues on the international and regional agendas and discussed cooperation within international organizations and regional structures, including the UN, OSCE, the Joint Territorial Community, the EU, and others.

Following the meeting of the strategic council, a protocol and a roadmap for bilateral cooperation were signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary for the period 2026–2028.
