The implementation and development of positron emission tomography(PET) combined with computed tomography(CT) in the Kyrgyz healthcare system was discussed at a meeting between Talaibek Masabirov, head of the Ala-Too parliamentary group and head of the parliamentary friendship group for cooperation with Japan, and Kotaro Nishigata, Permanent Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Kyrgyzstan.
According to the Kyrgyz Parliament, the meeting was also attended by Health Minister Damirbek Osmonov and Director of the National Center for Oncology and Hematology Nurbek Bukuev.
The parties discussed the implementation of PET-CT in the Kyrgyz healthcare system, the training of specialists in this field, and the availability of technical equipment.
According to Talaibek Masabirov, the negotiations were a continuation of the work begun during the Ala-Too parliamentary group's working visit to Japan in May of this year. The meeting also marked the first stage of negotiations on obtaining PET-CT equipment on a grant and free basis.
It is noted that the availability of such equipment will enable early diagnosis of diseases and reduce the need for patients to travel abroad for medical care.
Health Minister Damirbek Osmonov stated that the country's public healthcare system currently lacks affordable PET-CT equipment. He stated that the introduction of this high-tech method is of great importance in the fight against cancer.
