Bishkek, Aug 7, 2026 /Kabar/. Construction of a modern wastewater treatment facility continues in Issyk-Kul lake. New facility will serve Cholpon-Ata city, the villages of Bosteri, Baktuu-Dolonotu, and Kara-Oi, as well as adjacent boarding houses, resorts, and other areas. Askar Toktoshev, director of the wastewater treatment facility construction project at the Ministry of Construction of Kyrgyz Republic informs during a Kyrgyz-Chinese press tour.
According to him, the treatment facility is designed to treat 14,200 cubic meters of wastewater per day, which will serve approximately 100,000 people.
The Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation is the project contractor. As Toktoshev noted, construction is approximately two months ahead of schedule.
"Construction is scheduled for completion on July 25, 2027. However, the contractor intends to complete the work as early as April 2027, in time for the opening of the tourist season," he said.
The total cost of the project is $64.9 million. Financing is provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Approximately 50% of the construction work has been completed to date.
"After construction is completed, all boarding houses, resorts, and other facilities located within its service area are planned to be connected to the treatment facility," he said.
Toktoshev noted that a key feature of the project will be the introduction of biological wastewater treatment. While the existing treatment facility only provided mechanical treatment, after the new facility is commissioned, the water purification rate will reach 98%.
He also stated that the treated water and the resulting sludge will be used in agriculture—for irrigation of agricultural land and as fertilizer.
