Japanese man tries to steal Kyrgyz honey at Expo 2025 in Osaka

Bishkek, April 16, 2025. /Kabar/. Osaka prefectural police arrested an 83-year-old man on April 16 on suspicion of stealing honey from a display at a pavilion at the Osaka Kansai Expo.

This marked the first arrest inside the expo pavilions, the Asahi Shimban reported.

According to the Konohana Police Station, the man is suspected of stealing a jar of honey, worth 6,800 yen ($48) including taxes, from the booth of Kyrgyzstan, a Central Asian country, at around 1:30 p.m. on April 16.

A security guard at the scene reportedly saw the man putting the honey into a bag and apprehended him.

The booth was in the Commons A pavilion, where 29 countries jointly exhibit.

According to police, the man, who is from Tondabayashi, Osaka Prefecture, and of unknown occupation, has admitted to the charge.
